Overwatch 2 Targeted by DDoS Attack, but Players Have Other Worries
Blizzard has a big problem. Hacking attacks were carried out on the servers of the just-released Overwatch 2, preventing many players from joining in the fun.
Yesterday marked the release of Overwatch 2, the sequel to the popular online shooter from Blizzard Entertainment. Unfortunately, the launch was spoiled by hackers.
- Overwatch 2 servers were targeted by DDoS attacks.
- As a result, matchmaking is not working properly and many players are having trouble joining the game. Some have to wait in long queues, while others can't play at all.
- These problems affect all hardware platforms.
- In addition, many users are complaining, that they lost skins and cosmetic items from the first Overwatch (the transfer was supposed to be seamless). It is unclear whether these problems are due to DDoS attacks or bugs in the game itself.
- Blizzard Entertainment employees are already working on fixing all of these problems, but as of yet it is unclear when this will happen.
As you can see, the game's launch is not successful. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that fans of the brand who are waiting for patches can't go back to the first Overwatch. In preparation for the release of the sequel, Blizzard has shut down the servers of the first part.
Recall that Overwatch 2 is available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The game uses a free-to-play model, but there is also offers the paid Outpost Pack, which provideds extra items, including skins and 5 thousand OW coins (virtual premium currency, awarded for completing weekly tasks or for real money).
