Over 25 PS5 Exclusives Planned; Sony Invests in New IPs
More than 25 games for PlayStation 5, including plenty of new IPs. That's what Sony Interactive Entertainment's plans look like according to Hermen Hulst.
It's been six months since the release of the ninth-gen consoles, though it's easy to forget that when PS5 is still as hard to get as it was at the time. However, Sony isn't waiting for the console's supply issues to be resolved. According to Hermen Hulst (co-founder of Guerrilla Games and current head of Sony Worldwide Studios; via Wired) there are currently over 25 games in development under the aegis of Sony Interactive Entertainment. This includes 'big and small' titles from a variety of genres, although the developer didn't reveal anything more. To make things even more interesting, most of them are completely new IPs.
With no mention of long-rumored or even imminent releases, it's impossible to speculate on these projects. It's clear that Sony is preparing a major offensive to strengthen PS5's position on the market (and perhaps as an additional incentive to buy the console, despite the aforementioned problems with availability). Perhaps this is how the company wants to respond to the actions of Microsoft, which after buying Bethesda did not hide that it intends to take over other studios. What's more, Jim Ryan (head of SIE) has long made it clear that Sony is seriously investing in 'high quality PlayStation games'. So Hulst's statement is just additional confirmation of the company's plans.
The owners of PlayStation 5 recently received another exclusive title in the form of the warmly received Returnal. By the end of the year they will also see the launch of such titles as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon: Forbidden West.
