Unboxing of Pokemon Booster Packs Becomes a Hit on Twitch
Popular streamer Sodappopin said that the latest hot trend on Twitch - opening Pokemon card booster packs - is pretty much gambling and a bad example for the younger audience.
Twitch trends change very often. Games previously unknown to anyone can quickly gain huge popularity, but they can lose it just as quickly. Streamers often outdo each other in creating interesting content that will keep their audiences with them for longer. One of the hot trends nowadays is opening packs of Pokemon cards, so calle boosters, - an activity which, according to the popular streamer Sodapoppin, is dangerously close to gambling.
The "rules" are quite simple - streamers buy Pokemon boosters and open them during a live broadcast in the hope of hitting a rare and valuable card. Twitch users are more and more willing to watch such content and even start "playing" with the packs themselves. As Sodappopin pointed out, this inconspicuous activity is pretty much gambling, and streamers are teaching the younger audience bad habits.
"[...] I got a lot of shit when I played Blackjack on stream cause I was promoting gambling to children. And now Pokemon is big and everyone loves it, and it's just gambling with like a "kid-friendly" label slapped on."

For many of you this might be a small thing, but when we read the stories posted on the web, we can clearly see that this is starting to be a problem not only among young people. User garboguy12 wrote about how one of his friends, influenced by the popularity of the phenomenong, spends his savings on cards, hoping to find something rare and thus get rich. Unfortunately, so far all he has are losses. Many Internet users also warn against this kind of fun, because it is extremely difficult to make money on opening Pokemon booster packs and you have to be very lucky. Streamers do this to make the audience interested, but it doesn't mean that the audience should try the same thing.
Betting and gambling on Twitch
As a curiosity, it is worth adding that for some time now Twitch streamers have been able to create bets during their broadcasts where viewers can bet (and win) channel points (needed to buy various actions offered by a given streamer - e.g. greetings). This is another controversial element of Twitch, which teaches gambling in a way.
