A Small Hit Left Steam Because the Dev Got Burdened by Success
At the request of the developer, the platform game Only Up!, which gained considerable publicity in June thanks to online content creators, has been withdrawn from Steam distribution.
One of this year's small hits of the Steam and, above all, Twitch - Only Up! - has been pulled from Valve's store.
This arcade title, inspired by the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk, disappeared from the digital store at the request of the creator, who stated that he "wanted to leave it behind."
Only Up! debuted on May 24, this year. The game set records for popularity in mid-June, attracting many major online content creators among others due to its high level of difficulty.
Although the game about jumping and climbing subsequently higher floors did not gain wider recognition on the part of the players, it could count on numerous views thanks to streamers.
Despite the high recognition of the title - or rather, precisely because of it - its developer decided to remove the game from Steam. In doing so, the developer issued a brief statement, in which he stressed that he wanted "peace and healing" (via PCGamesN).
"I am a solo developer and this game is my first experience in development. I made it for creativity, to test myself, and I made a lot of mistakes. Development kept me under a lot of stress for all those months. Now I want to put the game behind me. And yes, it will not soon be available on Steam, I decided so myself."
Interestingly enough, the creator of Only Up! has no intention to give up making games, however, he plans to take a rest for the time being.
"I intend to take a break and continue my education in the field of game design, and then with new experience and knowledge to channel energy into my next game with the working title of Kith."
At the time of writing this message, Only Up! is no longer available for purchase on Steam. The product card is still active, however - although a lot of materials and information has been removed from it, including the title.
