Only 25% Players Completed Ori and the Will of the Wisps and That's a Good Result
Moon Game Studios reported that more than 2 million players played Ori and the Will of the Wisps and only 25% of them completed the main story. This result may seem low, but in fact the devs have no reason to be ashamed.
It's been three months since the release of Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The devs, i.e. Moon Game Studios, decided that this is a good time to summarize the results of the game.
We found out that more than 2 million people have played the title so far. Of that 423 thousand, or about 25%, have completed the game. 45 thousand have done it on high level of difficulty, and 7 thousand have completed the campaign without even one death of their character.
It is worth adding that over 2 million players do not mean that Ori and the Will of the Wisps has sold so many copies. It is also available as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription.
The stats showing that the majority of players have not completed a given game always stir great emotions, but in fact 25% is a good result, especially considering the game's level of difficulty and the fact that it has only been two months since its release.
Commenting on Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Michael Douse from Larian Studio (known for the Divinity series and the upcoming Baldur's Gate III) said that the highest quality games can boast a completion level of 31%, and the industry standard is 15%. He explains that this is not a problem, however, because in fact, for most players it's not the length that counts, but the quality of the game and how densely packed it is with good content, so that the players have something to do all the time. The latter sometimes increases the size of the whole project, but few developers deliberately try to create very long campaigns.
Of course, there is no shortage of titles that have achieved better results. Last year, we wrote about interesting statistics, which were created after analyzing trophies and achievements, which also showed that, for example, God of War has been completed by 53.6% of the game owners and Spider-Man by 50.3%. However, these cases happen rarely and achieving 25% two months after the release is no reason for the devs of Ori and the Will of the Wisps to be ashamed.
Stats provided by Moon Game Studios also show that in Spirit Trial mode offered by Ori and the Will of the Wisps 118,000 players have broken all records set by the developers. In addition, 442,000 have completed all challenges in the shrines, and 386,000 unlocked every skill in the game.
Let us recall that Ori and the Will of the Wisps appeared on March 11 on PC and Xbox One and met with a warm welcome. The XONE version received an average score of 90% on Metacritic, and the PC edition boasts 88%. Our editor also liked the title very much and gave it 9.0/10.
