Obi-Wan Director: Vader vs. Obi-Wan Duel Will Return

Deborah Chow, creator of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, coming to Disney+, confirmed that Darth Vader and Obi-Wan will have another lightsaber duel.

The the dust has yet to settle after the recent Investor Days, which Disney organizes every year to present plans for further development of the company. This year's edition revealed a lot of new productions set in the Star Wars universe, including the long-awaited series about Obi-Wan Kenobi. It turns out that at closed conferences, much more has been said than can be found in the official announcement on Star Wars website .

According to comicbook.com, Deborah Chow, director of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and Ewan McGregor, who plays the lead role, were guests at one of the meetings. It presented concept arts showing two crossed lightsabers - blue and red. Deborah Chow said that Vader and Obi-Wan "will definitely get into it again", referring to their iconic lightsaber battles. This means that in the series we will see the third fight between old friends. So far, it was known that Hayden Christensen, who played the role of Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith, would return as Darth Vader, but the question remained how important his role would be. We could not get a better answer.

Obi-Wan's fight with Vader in Star Wars: New Hope (1977)

The new battle between Obi-Wan and Vader will probably be completely different from the other two - the first one on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith when they were both still young, and the second, on the Death Star in New Hope, where Obi-Wan was already an old man, and Vader in a semi-mechanized monster, hidden under heavy armor. This second clash, although extremely interesting in 1977, currently leaves much to be desired from choreographic point of view, leading fans to create their own "improved" versions of the scene:

The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series may fill this gap, showing a spectacular fight between Vader as we first knew him and not-that-old Kenobi. This is plausible in the story of the new production, as it will take place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan will thus be a fully capable Jedi, still able to pull off some acrobatics, which can significantly diversify the fight against his powerful opponent and level the playing field. Although we know in advance that it will end in a draw (because both of them have to survive), the more interesting it will be to see what its significance for the plot is planned by the creators of the series.

We will find out about it (if everything goes well) in 2021, when Obi-Wan Kenobi will land on Disney+.
