Nominations for Steam Awards 2019 Begin
At the start of the Autumn Sale, Steam has announced the start of the collection of nominations for the Steam Awards 2019, which will be awarded in eight different categories. This year, the website will provide developers with new tools that will enable them to encourage players to vote for their works.
Steam Awards are slowly becoming one of the most important traditions of the website. The awards are granted in several reappearing categories (e.g. Game of the Year), as well as in several unusual ones, such as Soul of Vitruvius or Best Alternative History, which differ in each edition of the event. The winners are voted for by the players during the holiday/new year sale, which, according to the latest rumors, will most likely start on December 19. The winners will be announced less than two weeks later, on December 31.
The Steam Awards 2019 will be awarded in eight different categories. These are:
- Game of the Year
- VR Game of the Year
- Labor of Love
- Better With Friends
- Most Innovative Gameplay
- Outstanding Story-Rich Game
- Best Game You Suck At
- Outstanding Visual Style
Definitions of these more non-standard distinctions can be found on the official website of the event. It should be noted that in all categories, except for "Labor of Love", only productions published after November 27, 2018 can be nominated. Unlike many similar nominations, each game can only be nominated in one category. The number of votes cast by December 3 will determine whether the game will appear among the few finalists. Let's also mention that the nominees receive special Steam badges.
Valve has also announced that it wants to diversify the event and intensify the battle for nominations between the games. The company gave developers new tools using Steam client, enabling them to promote their work in selected categories, by publishing banners, through which we can automatically cast our vote. They will be connected to the main game page in the shop and in the library of the players who have it.
It is worth mentioning that in February this year, the winners of the Steam Awards 2018 were for the first time awarded during a special half-hour show, which was streamed live on Steam, among others. We still don't know if Valve is going to repeat the event. However, given the audience that the event has attracted, it is very likely that this will happen.
