No Man's Sky: Expeditions Adds New Multiplayer Mode
Hello Games has announced another major update for No Man's Sky, called Expeditions. It introduces a ton of fixes and a new multiplayer mode, where all players start on the same planet and embark on expeditions across the galaxy together.
Just in February, we reported on the release of the Companions update for No Man's Sky, which offered the players, among other things, the opportunity to take care of pets from alien planets. Hello Games clearly isn't slowing down and has just announced another major expansion, to version 3.3, which will be made available today. The patch is titled Expeditions and introduces a new multiplayer mode, as well as a host of significant changes to virtually all of No Man's Sky's major mechanics.
Let's start with expeditions themselves. In the new mode, all participants of a co-op session start on the same planet. The gameplay is based here on a series of different challenges, such as building the first common base or discovering 20 new species of organisms, after the completion of which we receive useful rewards in the form of valuable resources and unique items such as gold helmets and ships. Challenges are collected in groups, the so-called phases. After completing most of them we unlock another group of tasks. The system gives an interesting structure to the co-op play and encourages its participants to try different styles of play.
Another visible improvement in patch 3.3 is the completely revamped user interface, as well as improved textures and spaceship models that now offer more details. Nevertheless, the developers assure that the update will also significantly reduce loading times on all hardware platforms and improve the game's performance.
The developers have also changed the system of missions assigned to us on space stations and by randomly encountered NPCs on the planets' surfaces. They are to be more interesting and complex now and pose a greater challenge in later stages of the game. On the same occasion, the way the viewfinder works has been completely rebuilt. Instead of following mission markers, we will now rely on hints and arrows directing us towards the target.
