No Apple Phones for Movie Criminals and Villains

Apple does not allow movie villains to use its devices in movies and TV shows. The information was provided by director Rian Johnson, thus confirming the long-running rumors.

Apple strongly opposes the use of the iPhone by villains.

Have you ever wondered of a way to distinguish between good and bad characters in movies and TV shows, other that, you know, their actions? Just look at who's using Apple devices. At least that's what Rian Johnson (director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi) said about the company's policy on media coverage of its products. He raised this issue in an interview for Vanity's Fair, where he analyzed a scene from his last year's movie Knives Out. Incidentally, he revealed that Apple does not allow villains to use the company's devices in movie shots. It is no different in the scene he is discussing, in which - without going into details - a significant character stands out from the crowd by not using an iPhone. You can watch the video below, but watch out for spoilers.

The director basically confirmed the rumor that has been circulating online for some time. A year ago, New York Times mentioned that Apple's brass is very sensitive to how the company's devices are shown in movies. Heck, the viewers of 24 have noticed it almost 20 years ago (via Wired). Apparently, Apple's concern for the image of its products in media goes back a long way.
