Nintendo Unveils the Switch OLED Model
After months of speculation about a “Switch Pro,” Nintendo finally reveals the OLED Model, an upgraded version of the Switch featuring a 7-inch OLED screen, a LAN Port, and more. Plus, the new model will arrive this October.
This morning Nintendo finally revealed a new model of the Switch. Rumors about the so-called “Switch Pro” have been circulating for months, but now they can all finally be put to rest.
The announcement came in the form of a two and a half minute trailer on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, which you can watch here. During the trailer many upcoming Nintendo Switch titles were shown being played on the new console, from Metroid Dread to the Breath of the Wild sequel.
In terms of improvements from the previous Switch, the OLED Model has several changes. Perhaps one of the biggest being that the dock now has a LAN Port, allowing for steadier online connections while in TV mode.
Aside from that the trailer also showed off a wider, and far more adjustable kickstand that will allow much more variety in tabletop mode, as well as 64 gigabytes of internal storage.
As the name suggests, the new model also features a 7-inch OLED screen, an improvement compared to the 6.2 inch screen of the original model. The new model also boasts enhanced audio, but no true specifications were given on how exactly it is enhanced.
Nintendo’s final announcement was that this new OLED model will arrive on October 8th this year, in time for many of their E3 announcements.
