Switch Successor Getting Closer; Devs Reportedly Already Got Devkits
It looks like the release of the next-generation Nintendo Switch console is fast approaching. The latest leaks suggest that the Japanese giant is starting to provide developers with the first devkits of the new model.
The source of the leaks, Nash Weedle, suggests on Twitter that the release of the next-generation Switch is getting closer. Indeed, he wrote on his profile that one Spanish developer has received devkits of the new model. This could mean that the device is already entering the final phase of development before launch.
Switch 2 getting closer and closer
The Nintendo Switch premiered in early 2017 and was not the most powerful console even at the time of its debut. As time passed, the device began to age more and more, so fans began to demand a new model. Admittedly, as was recently reported, Nintendo is already working on Switch's successor, but its release would not take place until the next fiscal year.
According to Nash Weedle, it could happen sooner. This is because Nash claims that Spanish studio MercurySteam, has already received the devkits of Switch's successor from Nintendo, so that it can start developing new titles. The said company is responsible for the latest 2D installments of Metroid.
The information is, of course, not confirmed, but it cannot be ruled out that Nintendo's engineers are already close to completing work on the second generation Switch. Besides, these are not the only reports talking about the new console that have emerged in recent days. Last week, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed, that Nintendo's account system will make it easier to move to the new device, which may indicate that it will be backward compatible. There have also been leaks saying, that "Switch 2"'s performance will be similar to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
At this point we do not know when the successor to Nintendo Switch will be officially unveiled. However, you can be sure that we will inform you as soon as there is any new information.
