Dandadan is a manga that first started publishing in 2021, created by Yukinobu Tatsu, who both writes and illustrates the series. It gained international popularity during the pandemic and continues to maintain its success today. A few months ago, it was announced that Dandadan would be getting an anime adaptation, which will be produced by Science Saru - the same studio behind the acclaimed Devilman Crybaby from 2018 (which is still available on Netflix).

What Dandadan is about

Dandadan follows the story of two students, Momo and Okarun (Ken Takakura). Momo doesn’t believe in aliens, while Okarun is all about supernatural phenomena. But their lives get turned upside down when they’re caught up in encounters with both aliens and yokai. While Dandadan fits the mold of a typical shonen battle series, it constantly plays with the genre, delivering surprises in every chapter. I won’t dive into the plot to avoid spoilers, but it’s worth noting that Dandadan is already ranked as the second most anticipated anime of 2024.

Chapter 168 of the manga was released yesterday, continuing the current arc. It’s still unclear when the series will wrap up, but the author is actively introducing new characters and expanding the storylines of existing ones, which suggests the end is likely still a long way off.

Dandadan release date and where to watch the anime

The first episode of the Dandadan anime will be released on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The anime will be available for watching on the following platforms: Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu.

According to leaks, Dandadan is expected to have 12 episodes, which will introduce a variety of characters and set up the entire story.
