New Samsung and Apple Smartphones Sold Without Charger
Soon we may not find a charger in the box of our new Samsung or Apple smartphone. The companies intend to remove this element from the new sets.
Evolutionary changes in smartphones sometimes cause controversy. From non-removable batteries, through curved screens (making it difficult to stick a safety glass on) to the lack of a jack connector. What Samsung and Apple are currently preparing may seem difficult to accept by many. Imagine that you won't find a charger in the box with your new device for several hundred dollars.
- You bought a smartphone and there was no charger in the box? Soon this may be the new normal;
- The cost reduction associated with the introduction of 5G and the battle against electronic waste are cited as the main reasons for the new "trend" in terms of phone kit content.
SamMobile writes about Samsung's plans for new smartphone box content. The company is considering not supplying chargers in the box. This could be an attempt to follow in the footsteps of iPhone 12, which not only does not offer headphones, but is also supposed to be delivered without a charger, as previously announced. Are we really living to see times when a box will include nothing but the phone and cable?
It is worth considering for a moment what such changes may be caused by. In the case of Samsung, this is explained by the cost reduction that is necessary due to the price of 5G modules now being installed in new devices. There is also talk about the fight against electronic waste. The company believes that currently everyone has at least a few chargers at home. As far as iPhone 12 is concerned, some people are looking for a new device in a very slim package.
Perhaps it is also about evoking changes in the market for smartphone accessories. Depriving sets of this essential component may increase sales of original power supplies or replacements of other brands. Perhaps more buyers will consider acquiring induction chargers. I personally am not exactly convinced by the argument of cost reduction. Low-power impulse chargers used in smartphone are a common and cheap technology. Just look at the prices of such accessories to see how little value they represent in a smartphone set. Maybe it would still make sense in budget models, but in flagships for hundreds of dollars?
