New Ghost Pokemon Gimmighoul Revealed for Scarlet & Violet
Gimmighoul, a new ghost type Pokemon that has two different forms, was revealed in a new trailer for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
Another new Pokemon was revealed just a week and a half before the release of Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet. Gimmighoul, a ghost type Pokemon, has two forms: a “chest form” where it seems to live inside a treasure chest, and a “roaming form” where it walks around out in the open. It’s not yet clear what the differences will be aside from appearance. Though it does seem that both forms will be encountered in different ways. Check out the trailer below:
The trailer announced that the new ghost type Pokemon will also be appearing in Pokemon GO sometime in 2023. The mysterious golden coins found in the game will attract the “roaming form” Gimmighoul to trainers. This might be the only way to catch this form as the trailer explained that no trainers from Scarlet & Violet’s new region, Paldea, have ever been able to catch the roaming form.
Gimmighoul appears to be a small bipedal creature with golden eyes and an obsession with coins. The “roaming form” carries a coin on its back, while the “chest form” is fully immersed in a treasure chest full of coins. It’s not clear if the chest is part of its body or if it treats them like a hermit crab treats its shell. It’s also not clear if this Pokemon will evolve or not.
Like many ghost type Pokemon, Gimmighoul has some creepy lore. The “chest form” of Gimmighoul is described as luring passerby into filling its treasure chest with coins. After the chest is filled the victims have no memory of why they did it. This could hint at potential mechanics for Scarlet & Violet. Perhaps players will need to collect a certain amount of coins before the treasure chest opens up, revealing the Pokemon inside.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet releases on Friday, November 18th, 2022. Will you be adding Gimmighoul to your team? Leave a comment below letting us know your thoughts!
