New Game Plus only in Deluxe and Ultimate Editions. SEGA Taking Flak Again
Sega offers the New Game Plus mode only in the more expensive editions of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Once again, this has been met with dissatisfaction from players.
Sega, responsible for the release of the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, has chosen a controversial solution. It was confirmed that it decided to include the New Game Plus mode only in the more expensive versions of the title, i.e. Deluxe and Ultimate, thereby depriving buyers of the basic edition of this option.
Already in September last year, Sega announced that such a plan existed, which was met with irritation by players, but it was unclear whether it also applied to the western releases of the game. Especially considering that in the case of the previous installment of the series - Yakuza: Like a Dragon - New Game Plus mode was available for free to western players.
Naturally, game fans are upset about this situation, as typically when a title has New Game Plus, it's an integral part of the product, playable without extra charges (or added later as an update). A bunch of comments popped up on Reddit expressing frustration, although some people pointed out that they did expect this from the publisher, who's known for aggressive approach to monetizing extra content.
Sega/Atlus genuinely has some of the worst DLC/ premium edition practices ever. Which sucks when it's an actual top of the class video game.
Personally, i won't play this game more than once, as it likely has 100+hours of content. So while this doesn't directly affect me.. locking NG+ behind a paywall is still some grade-A bulls**t.
This is standard for the Yakuza series, but it is also the first time that the NG+ mode has been included in DLC for the English-language release of the game.
On Steam, in the PS Store and Xbox Store, New Game Plus still appears next to the Deluxe and Ultimate versions as bonus Master Vacation add-on - according to last year's information, this pack introduces, among other things, this mode of play. You will find confirmation of this, for example, on the game's official website. It's possible that soon after this piece of DLC releases, it will be sold separately.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will release on January 25 on PC (Steam), and a day later on PS4, PS5, Xone and XSX/S consoles.
