New Easter Egg Discovered in WoW; Concerns Plot of The War Within
An avid WoW fan has discovered an easter egg that provides us with a bit of information about the game's lore and the storyline of the upcoming The War Within expansion.
X user and avid fan of World of Warcraft lore, Korrin/Hammerman753 (via Wowhead), recently discovered an interesting easter egg in the game referring to the DLC announced at November BlizzCon - The War Within, The find possibly revealed information about the plot of that expansion.
About the fact that one of the central points of the plot of The War Within will be the great sword thrust into the planet by Sargeras, creator of the Burning Legion, we already knew from last year's trailer (below). However, it turns out that in WoW you can find additional information about the aforementioned blade, and in the process also learn some historical facts about the World of Warcraft universe, which are more than likely to be developed in the game's upcoming tenth DLC.
Story trivia about The War Within
How to come across the discussed easter egg? First you should go to Silithus.
Then, equipped with the appropriate transmogrified items, which were available in November's Cosmic Weapons Cache, you need to find the Twilight Hermit, who is located in the middle of the desert there.
If you approach this orc hermit when equipped with the sword Gorridar or Seetheras - blades resembling the one hammered into the ground by Sargeras - then we will hear from him what follows:
"I warned you before that the end times are coming. That weapon you wield proves it. It emanates the same energies that flowed through the Dark Titan's blade.
Why did he strike this place? He was far too masterful a tactician to choose this target by chance. His crusade sought to eradicate all life from existence. Do you think his final act before being captured by the Pantheon would not be in service of that goal?
Tread carefully, warrior, lest you indavertently find yourself serving the same cause."
If, in turn, we approach the aforementioned NPC with a Taesavir or M'thorus, i.e. titan daggers, then he, recognizing the weapons, will say:
"Titans only care about their Order. They will sacrifice everything to defend it - including their own followers.
Even the Dark Titan's actions had a pattern. They were driven by cold logic, aiming to impose his ideal vision on others, and a readiness to eliminate existence if he failed to achieve his goal.
Do you think the rest of his kind are different? Only in method, not in purpose. Be careful that you don't blindly become part of their plan."
Finally, when approaching the Twilight Hermit with a transmogrified Voidsong staff, a weapon that once belonged to the Void Herold, we will hear a story, which will be interrupted by... a "presence" stalking our interlocutor:
"Do you have any idea how ancient the weapon you are wielding is?
There was a time when this whole world was ruled by the Black Empire. It was magnificent.
The masters bestowed gifts on their faithful. This staff was one such gift.
It was given to the Herold [Xal'atath - ed. note] so that one day she could... could... What? No, I wasn't going to tell them!
[After this the orc falls silent, as if chastised by some invisible entity.]"
From the above words of the hermit, we can deduce two things about the plot of The War Within.
- First, the blade impaled by Sargeras was probably part of a larger plan that may still be in the pipeline in the expansion.
- And second, the Void Herold Xal'atath or her henchmen - who will probably play an important role in the upcoming expansion - will be able to manifest themselves in the form of a mysterious "presence," as seen by the hermit. The latter, for some reason, was forced by the alien entity not to reveal information about the original purpose of the Voidsong - a weapon once wielded by Xal'atath.
It should be remembered that the above-described discoveries, while extremely interesting for fans of WoW lore, are still only easter eggs, i.e. more of a curiosity to ramp up the hype before this year's expansion's release, rather than groundbreaking information about the plot.
It is worth recalling that World of Warcraft - in addition to The War Within - will receive two more major expansions, titled Midnight and The Last Titan, which will make up a story trilogy referred to in the announcements as the World Sould Saga.
