New Doom or Quake in the Pipeline; id Software is Looking for Employees
id Software, creators of Doom and Quake, is looking for staff for a project it describes as an „iconic action FPS”, probably a fantasy or sci-fi game. So there's a good chance that a new installment of one of the legendary brands is lurking on the horizon.
- id Software is looking for employees for a new project;
- From the descriptions of the announcements it seems that it may be either about the next Doom or Quake.
It's nothing definite yet, but word is spreading across the web at lightning speed: a new project is coming from id Software, the studio known for such productions as Doom, Rage or Quake. The developer has announced that it is looking for a Senior Technical Animator, an Environment Concept Artist, a Skybox Artist, and many other technical and concept specialists.
But what is more important in these announcements, id Software is looking to hire people to work on what it describes as a "long-running, iconic action FPS". And in the listings for artistic positions, it's mentioned that potential employees "will be responsible for visualization and implementation of views and landscapes at AAA production level".. Candidates should also be well-versed in fantasy and science-fiction tropes.

Id Software's announcements don't explicitly state what project they're referring to, but the aforementioned references to iconic FPS and fantastic settings suggest that this could potentially be about Doom or Quake. The latest title in the former series, Doom Eternal, was released in 2020 and met with mostly positive reviews. The game got two story expansions and updates for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. In contrast, the latest installment of the Quake series: Champions, passed without much echo in the gaming community, and the most ardent fans of the series were not satisfied with the product received in early access, which resulted in Champions switching to F2P model in 2018. This year, meanwhile, a remaster of the first Quake was released, which once again met with mixed reception.
Be it Doom or Quake, there's certainly something to look forward to. In the case of the former, id Software will want to keep up the good work. As for the latter, to erase the bad impression.
