New Cities: Skylines 2 Patch Will Fix Economy, But Other Updates Will Take Longer
The developers of Cities: Skylines 2 are preparing to improve the game's economy. However, this will come at the expense of delaying new content, and possibly the release on consoles.
Big changes are headed to Cities: Skylines 2. Colossal Order Studio revealed its development plans for its city-builder.
Unfortunately, they consider the delay of the so-called Creator Packs. In theory, implementing a DLC with fan-created content wouldn't take the devs much time. The developer is focusing on other, more significant innovations.
These include, among others: the reconstruction of the economic system, which is already being tested by the devs. The initial implementation of these changes has been confirmed in a post on the official Paradox company website, but the developers still need to refine the update based on the feedback from players testing the beta version before it is released to all CS 2 buyers. The patch is scheduled to be released between June 3rd and June 19th.
Hence the delay in the debut of new content. This will last a long time, as both Paradox and Colossal Order are bound by the so-called summer lock. This is the period from July to August, during which employees in Sweden and Finland can take up to 4 weeks of leave in a row. In other words, there are fewer active employees in both companies at that time.
That's why the team and the publisher prefer not to release any new content during this period. Ultimately, there is always the possibility that an update or DLC will require rapid adjustments, and introducing them would be challenging during the "summer lock."
The Colossal Order team also mentioned a console version. The planned level of optimization hasn't been achieved yet, despite the beta version being prepared at the end of April. The developer still hopes to be able to release CS 2 on PS5 and XSX/S by October, but warned that further delays may occur.
