Need for Speed 2022 Release Date Leaked; Said to be 'Next-gen' Game
Jeff Grubb informed when we can expect the next installment of the Need for Speed series. The title will come only to current-gen consoles.
During his recent show streamed on Giant Bomb (for premium users) VentureBeat journalist and well-known industry insider Jeff Grubb said (via VGC):
"The new Need for Speed will be released later this year... That's right, this game should be coming out in November.. If you're a fan of the series who bought a new console, then we have good news for you: the title is coming only to the current generation.
What's more, Grubb believes that the game could be set in Miami.
Release delay
Originally, the aforementioned Need for Speed game - created by Criterion Games, the devs of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit) - was supposed to debut before the end of this March (via Polygon).
Unfortunately, twelve months before the deadline the team was dispatched to help with Battlefield 2042. This put a temporary halt to work on the new NFS.
Following the release of the aforementioned FPS, Criterion has once again taken an active role in creating the next installment in the famed racing game series. Let's hope that with the studio's experience, the series will return in well-deserved glory.
Target platforms
In Grubb's words, the new NFS will be released on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The official release date remains a mystery - but that should change by June or July at the latest, if the game is indeed set to debut this fall.
