Monkey Island Dev May be Working on New Installment

Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert may be working on a new installment of this classic adventure game series.

The creator of the Monkey Island, Ron Gilbert, announced that he is working on a new installment of the series. Unfortunately, it's hard to say if this is true.

  1. The information was published on Gilbert's blog Grumpy Gamer.
  2. The message appeared on April 1, so it could just be a joke.
  3. Gilbert, however, has long made no secret of his aversion to April Fool's Day (which he also emphasizes in his latest post), and no jokes on the occasion have ever appeared on that blog.

All this makes it difficult to say whether the creator is telling the truth. However, we hope that it is so, because the return of the Monkey Island franchise would be a dream come true for many adventure game fans, especially if Ron Gilbert was at the head of the devteam.

Let us remind that the creator was responsible for the first two installments of the series, namely The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. The third part, The Curse of Monkey Island, was already created under the leadership of different developers, but nevertheless was received very warmly. The reception of subsequent games from the series, namely. Escape from Monkey Island and Tales of Monkey Island was much colder.

A few years ago Ron Gilbert returned to adventure games with Thimbleweed Park. The game turned out to be an excellent representative of its genre, showing that the developer still has a talent for creating such games. That is why I would love to see a new installment of Monkey Island from him.
