- During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Jason Momoa revealed that the character he is playing in Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve, is a bit like Han Solo in his opinion.
- The first part of a new adaptation of Frank Herbert's prose will debut in theatres on December 18.
Recent days have brought increased interest in the Dune movie. It's all thanks to official photos, either published in the industry media or by the actors themselves (e.g. Kynes Zendaya, who plays the role of Chani), giving a foretaste of how the new screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's iconic novel directed by Denis Villeneuve will present itself in action. But this is not the end of it. The atmosphere around the upcoming science fiction show was additionally heated by Jason Momoa. Recently, he was a guest of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, during which he talked a bit about the character he plays in the movie - Duncan Idaho.
Let's give the floor to Jason:
"I play the role of Duncan Idaho, who is a kind of like this master swordsman and the right hand man to Duke Leto, who's Oscar Isaac. He is the first person to be sent to the surface of Dune and that's when I meet the character portrayed by Javier Bardem. I can't believe I had a scene with Javier Bardem! It's a pretty massive film and I gotta be like this little one here - he [my character] is a bit like Han Solo of the group. Kinda like the rogue warrior who protects Timothée Chalameta and serves Oscar Isaac."
The whole interview, during which Momoa also tells how his life looks like during the quarantine, can be viewed below.
We would like to remind that both the movie and the book Dune focus on the history of the Atreides family. Its members come to the title desert planet, the source of a powerful substance called the spice, to become its govenors, according to the will of the galactic emperor. Unfortunately, the Harkonnens, who once ruled this place, do not intend to surrender easily.
Dune's new adaptation is to consist of two parts. The first will make its debut in theatres on December 18, this year. In addition to the already mentioned Momoa, Bardem, Isaac, Chalamet and Zendaya, the film will feature Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Rolin, Stellan Skarsgard and Charlotte Rampling, among others.
