MMORPG Hunger on Steam and F1 2021's Excellent Debut
Last week's biggest Steam bestsellers were Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and F1 2021. Meanwhile, MMORPGs like Sword of Legends Online and New World also did pretty well.
- Monster Hunter Stories 2 turned out to be unbeatable, despite the fact that it launched before last week;
- F1 2021 with the best debut in the series' history;
- The popularity of New World and Swords of Legends Online shows that players have an appetite for new MMORPGs.
As it does every Monday, Valve released a list of of last week's biggest Steam bestsellers (by revenue). The first place was taken by Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. It is worth noting that it debuted on July 9. In the previous edition of the list it was on the number 3 position, behind Playerunknown's Battlegrounds and Sea of Thieves. This was due to the fact that the summer sale was in progress and masses of players took the opportunity to cheaply purchase these hits.
Once the sale was over, however Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin was unrivalled. Interestingly, in the second weekend after the release the game was more popular than in the first. On Saturday, it set a new activity record of 39,995 users, while the highest score of the day yesterday was only 48 players lower.
Two different releases of F1 2021 took second and fourth place on last week's bestseller list. Valve didn't say which edition took which position. The game scored the best debut in the history of the franchise on Steam. The activity record of the first weekend after the release was 24,513 users, which is half a thousand better than that of last year's installment. F1 2020 has no reason to be ashamed, though. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, 9,348 virtual drivers raced in the game, a number most racing titles can only dream of.
In third place was taken by the Steam Deck portable console pre-orders. And a 40% price cut did wonders for the erotica-filled action RPG She Will Punish Them, enabling the game to take fifth place despite costing less than $10.
It is also worth noting the good pre-order figures of New World. Two different editions of this game took 9th and 10th places on the list. Here, too, Valve did not specify which position fell to which edition. The success of the project is caused, among other things, by the fact that pre-orders will provide access to closed beta tests, which start tomorrow.
Players have clearly longed for good classic MMORPGs. This is evidenced not only by good pre-orders of New World. The seventh place on the list was taken by Swords of Legends Online, the Chinese representative of this genre.
