Middle-earth: Shadow of War microtransactions and the need of internet connection explained
Players didn't particularly like the news that Middle-earth: Shadow of War is going to include microtransactions and require Internet connection. Monolith Productions decided to explain that.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War community went wild over the weekend after Monolith Productions announced that the game is going to have microtransactions. Through in-game marketplace players will be able to purchase Loot Chests with weapons and armor for Tallion, War Chests with Orc followers of varying rarity, XP boosts and bundles of all of those. You will be able to buy the chests using two types of virtual currency (Mirian and Gold), which can be either acquired from in-game activity or purchased for real money. Visiting the marketplace will require Internet connection, but the game will be totally playable offline.
The very information that Middle-earth: Shadow of War would include microtransactions made players angry. That’s why the developer decided to stress that any content included in the purchasable chests is to be found in the game as well (thanks, WCCTech). Buying those only speeds up what you can achieve simply by playing. No gear or followers will be exlusive for the chests, which seems pretty fair. On the other hand, however, several years ago the only thing players needed to do in order get a rare item in a single player game, was to use cheats. No wonder so many players aren’t happy with where microtransactions are heading.
