Microsoft Wants Prettier Games With More FPS, Hires AI Specialist for the Job
Microsoft intends to bring upscaling technology to Xbox Series X|S consoles. New software employees are being sought for this purpose.
- Microsoft is looking for AI engineers to create its own resolution scaling technology;
- The new solutions will help keep gameplay smooth with high-quality graphics in Xbox Series X/S games.
Microsoft will begin working on its own resolution scaling technology. The company wants to use upscaling in its next-gen consoles, which is expected to help keep the gameplay smooth while retaining high-quality graphics. The solutions Microsoft is said to be working on will make use of artificial intelligence, and the whole thing may look a bit like Nvidia's DLSS technology.
Microsoft's official website already has job offers related to AI engineering posted. The description of one of them (a senior software engineer position) reads:
"Xbox is leveraging machine learning to make traditional rendering algorithms more efficient and to provide better alternatives. The Xbox graphics team is seeking an engineer who will implement machine learning algorithms in graphics software to delight millions of gamers. Work closely with partners to develop software for future machine learning hardware. Make a big impact in computer graphics and gaming."
Requirements for candidates are 5 to 10 years of professional software development experience and some machine learning or data science experience depending on the position. The introduction of the new scaling technology is expected to help ease the burden on console components, which will directly translate into better performance, just like with Nvidia's DLSS (although obviously the two will not be the same resolution scaling methods).
