Microsoft May Consider Acquisition of Dying Light 2 Devs
Rumors suggest Microsoft's next acquisition could be Techland, the creators of Dying Light, Dead Island and Call of Juarez.
One of the most famous events last year in the gaming industry was Microsoft's purchase of Bethesda Softworks for $7.5 billion. Rumors have been circulating for some time that this will not be company's last purchase. Now, reports have surfaced that one of the candidates for the acquisition is Techland, the Polish studio currently working on Dying Light 2.
The source of the speculation is youtuber Jeremy Penter, also known as ACG. In a recent edition of the Defining Duke podcast, he revealed that Microsoft is preparing for another purchase. Insider Shpeshal Ed, aka Nick Baker, has checked with his sources and is convinced that the studion on the table is Techland.
Baker's reports have not always found coverage in reality, so these should be approached with caution. That said, in recent months, his information usually turned out to be true. He was right, for example, about the return of the Perfect Dark franchise or the acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment by Embracer Group.
It is worth noting that rumors about plans to buy out the Polish studio by Microsoft first appeared back in 2019 and 2020, but then they were denied by Techland. However, a lot of time has passed since then, and Microsoft has begun to invest much more aggressively in purchases of development studios.
Work on Dying Light 2 is at an advanced stage, and the game is coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. With previous purchases, Microsoft hasn't canceled versions for Sony's consoles that were already in development, so even if the company acquires Techland we expect Dying Light 2 to make it to PS5 nonetheless.
