Lots of New Stuff Coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator, Including Helicopters
During a Q&A session about Microsoft Flight Simulator developers from Asobo announced many new features that will be coming to the game. These include helicopters and vintage aircraft.
Microsoft Flight Simulator will get a lot of novelties. We have already reported of one of them - the introduction of DLSS technology to the DirectX 12 version. However, virtual aviators can expect many more novelties. Asobo plans to introduce to the game, among other things, helicopters and vintage aricraft and refresh certain regions.
MSFS World Updates
The earliest of the planned new content will be World Update 7: Australia. The update will hit the game today. As usual with World Updates, players can expect a refreshed region map and more details.

World Update 8: Iberia will refine the look of the Iberian Peninsula, Spain and Portugal to be exact. Four new airports, 99 tourist spots and more missions will be added to the game. The update will hit the game at the end of March.
Vintage Aircrafts
The two regional updates will also include two vintage aircraft dubbed Local Legends by Asobo. The first of these, which will be introduced with World Update 7, is the Fokker F.VIIb. In the eighth update, the Dornier Do J Wal - the aircraft at the controls of which the first transatlantic flight was made - will appear in the game.
In March, the Antonov An-2 will be introduced to the game, starting a new collection of so-called Famous Aviators, which will be a collection of aircraft with exceptional performance (the fastest, largest, etc.). More models from this collection will appear with the Sim Updates.
Other news
Helicopters will also be added to the game, although we can expect them only in autumn 2022. So far, helicopter flights have only been possible with fan-made modifications, such as the Helicopter Project and The FlyInside (a paid DLC) from HypePerformanceGroup. The difficulty in implementing helicopters is definitely the aerodynamic model, which the studio developed mainly with fixed-wing aircraft in mind.
On the subject of aerodynamics, it should also be mentioned that in the next two months MSFS will received Sim Update 8 and Sim Update 9, which will improve this aspect of the gameplay.
Undoubtedly, 2022 will be a year full of excitement and novelties for fans of Asobo's aviation simulator. A detailed roadmap for the next few months can be found below. Microsoft Flight Simulator is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
