Metacritic Has Spoken - Cyberpunk 2077 is a Bugged Hit

It happened - Cyberpunk 2077 got its first reviews. The game has its share of problems, but the ratings so far confirm that it was worth waiting until December.

Many years and shows and a few delays we have waited for the debut of Cyberpunk 2077. Will the patience pay off and will we get a game as outstanding as the creators have announced? Fortunately, we already know the answer thanks to numerous reviews of the game, which have been published online. This includes our review, linked below.

Cyberpunk 2077 - selected review scores:

  • Gamepressure - 9/10
  • Gameblog.fr - 10/10
  • GamesRadar - 10/10
  • God is a Geek - 10/10
  • TheGamer - 5/5
  • Windows Central - 5/5

  • GamesBeat - 3/5

As seen above, the answer to the question in the previous paragraph is a definite "yes". Although there were some worse ratings (i.e. below 8/10) and "tens" do not dominate, the vast majority of reviewers are delighted with CD Projekt RED's new game. Thanks to this ,Cyberpunk 2077 can boast an average of 91/100 based on 38 PC reviews on Metacritic. We will find out if this result will be maintained after more reviews appear.

Without further ado, the reviewers are in consensus on the pros and cons of the game. The latter include a large number of bugs and glitches, which is not surprising after the announcement of a huge day 1 update for the game, despite a hefty pre-launch patch. This includes occassionally stumbling AI, but also more typical bugs like item clipping. Besides that, there is a quite serious problem with quick saves, not always registering correctly the state of the character and enemies.

If we skip the less frequent and more specific complaints (for example excessive sexualization), the rest of the game did not raise major objections. On the contrary, reviewers admire the huge and lively city full of interesting characters and numerous and - what's important - mostly interesting activities. The praise was also collected by model RPG elements, with a flexible character wizard and class system giving great freedom in creating our own style of play. The audiovisuals also did not raise any objections: Cyberpunk 2077 looks stunning, and the rich soundtrack will appeal to many players. Here and there, there are even mentions of refined optimization.

Of course, this is not a game for everyone, as can be seen from some weaker ratings. However, in the end, the team at CD Projekt RED has kept its word. Cyberpunk 2077 is an excellent work, stunning in its vastness and full of vistas, characters and events that remain in memory for a long time. Whether it will delight the players as well, we will find out soon. The game will be released on December 10 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As a reminder, the game will receive dedicated updates on ninth generation consoles, adding support for next-gen features on these platforms. The first update will be available for release, but we'll have to wait for the latter until next year.
