Lord of the Rings Online Will be Overhauled Thanks to Amazon's Series

The MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online to be refreshed. Ports to Xbox Series X/S and PS5 are also planned. The game's publisher wants to take advantage of the increased interest in the brand, generated by Amazon Prime Video's upcoming TV series.

It seemed that the 2007 The Lord of the Rings Online has its best years behind it. It turns out, that soon this MMORPG will get a solid overhaul and next-gen console ports.

According to the sources of PCGamesN, the game's publisher, Daybreak Games recently organized a conference for investors. The conference presented plans to thoroughly refresh The Lord of the Rings' visuals and port the game to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, both to take place in 2022.

Daybreak Games wants to invest a lot of money in the game's overhaul, as the company hopes to take advantage of the increased interest in the franchise as a result of the release of the Amazon Prime Video's upcoming TV series. The plans for the TV production are very ambitious, and it is reported that the planned five seasons will consume a billion dollars in total.

Amazon will undoubtedly advertize the series like crazy, so The Lord of the Rings Online has a chance to benefit greatly as well. However, to make it possible, it will be necessary to improve the game's visuals. The game launched in 2007 and since then, despite the updates, it has become technically obsolete.

It's worth mentioning that Amazon is also planning its own MMO set in Middle-earth, with Athlon Games working on it. It's interesting how the title will compare with the refreshed The Lord of the Rings Online.
