Lord of the Rings is 'One of the Biggest Gaming IPs in the World'; Embracer has Plan
Swedish media giant Embracer Group has announced major changes in the structure of future projects. The core of the corporation is to become products based on the Lord of the Rings brand.
In an earlier news today, we wrote about Swedish company Embracer Group's plans for a major restructuring. As it turns out, a key brand in the company's new publishing plan is to be Lord of the Rings.
Emphasis on Middle-earth
In an open letter issued by Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, and during a later press conference the company signaled quite clearly that it has high hopes for upcoming projects in the universe created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
"We own Lord of the Rings, and we know that we have to use it in a very meaningful way and turn it into one of the biggest game brands in the world. That's obviously something we're going to do," said Matthew Karch, chief operating officer.
It is worth recalling at this point that in last August the Swedish corporation managed to buy out Middle-earth Enterprises, which enable the company to acquire the rights to create adaptations of works set in the well-known universe.
New ventures related to the Lord of the Rings brand are to be made possible by "strategically" abandoning the development of other, less promising projects. The company, by the way, makes no secret of its plans, making it clear that:
"[Investing in the Lord of the Rings brand - ed. note] is a much better use of resources than some of the other projects that some of our teams have been working on," added Matthew Karch.
Time will probably tell whether Embracer Group's decisive policy will prove successful.
