Original Life Is Strange Gained Great Popularity Thanks to Episodic Formula
Don't Nod has announced that more than two tens of millions of people have played the original Life Is Strange. This is a major achievement for an adventure game that is several years old.
Life Is Strange games are some of the more popular title in the output of French studio Dont't Nod. On the occasion of Thanksgiving, the creators of these adventures thanked the fans who played the first part, released in 2015. Thanks to this, we learned that more than 20 million players have fired up the original Life Is Strange.
We have to admit that for a game with not too complicated gameplay, in which the plot plays a key role, this is a really impressive result. Above all, it is action and RPGs that attract millions of players with, among other things, original mechanics, visuals or the fact that they are based on a well-known brands - such examples can be listed almost endlessly. The popularity of the first Life Is Strange is thus an unusual case.
It's worth bearing in mind, however, that the game starring the time-manipulating Max Caulfield was released in episodes, of which there are five in total. In addition, the first episode of Life Is Strange is available completely free of charge, which may be the main reason for the twenty million buyers.
The number given by the developers is most likely the aggregate result of people who have interacted with any of the episodes on all the platforms on which the game was released. And there's really quite a lot of those - Life Is Strange was released on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles and PCs, as well as Android and iOS devices, and in 2022 it also came to PS5, XSX/S and Switch in a remastered form.
As we mentioned above, the original game was released in 2015 (the first episode debuted in January), so it really had a long time to accumulate a total of 20 million players.
If you are not yet familiar with the story of student Max Caulfield and her friend Chloe Price, then a good opportunity to get acquainted with it comes with the aforementioned collection of remasters. It includes refreshed versions of the first part and its prequel, Before the Storm, along with extras. As part of the ongoing sale on Steam you can purchase Life Is Strange Remastered Collection for less than $20.
