„Leo I'm Afraid to Say Was Kneeling Down”. Kate Winslet Reveals Secrets of the Door Scene from Titanic
Kate Winslet recently revisited a memorable scene from Titanic with Rose and Jack to talk about her secrets.
Titanic is James Cameron's unforgettable masterpiece that still causes a sensation today. In addition, there is one aspect of this production that still leaves viewers unsettled – could Jack really not fit through the door with Rose? And it was to this memorable scene that Kate Winslet recently returned to reveal its secrets.
The actress took part in a Q&A session at the 92nd Street Y (via People), and in the course of it, the subject of the door scene from Titanic, which apparently will stick with Winslet for the rest of her career, came up again. And while she didn't answer the most vexing question about whether Jack and Rose would fit on the door together, she did talk about what it was like shooting the scene. The scenery was drastically different from what viewers later saw on screen.
Well that was quite an awkward tank ... because to burst the bubble, it was waist height at that time. So first of all, I was regularly like, “Can I just go for a pee?” And then I get up, get off the door, walk to the edge of the tank, sort of 20 feet away and I literally have to fling my leg over and climb up and come and get back on the door again. It's terrible. Anyway, yeah. So it was waist-high. Leo I'm afraid to say was kneeling down. I shouldn't be saying anyways, Jimmy Cameron's gonna be ringing me. Actually the thing that was amazing about the edges of the tank was it was an infinity tank. So there was constant water rushing and you could hear the constant sound of water.
The actors weren't in deep water, Leonardo DiCaprio couldn't even stand upright in it so as not to look strange at the door where Winslet was lying. So he was forced to kneel during the filming of dramatic scenes. Winslet, on the other hand, confessed that due to the shallow depth, she was able to move freely in and out of the pool as needed.
Actually, it's not surprising that the film set was radically different from the scenery we saw in the movie – shooting such a scene in the right location would not have been possible. The filmmakers had to use cinematic tricks to make sure that everything took place in safe and controlled conditions, even if this made some things look comical during the work.
