Lego Unveils Epic Set From Dungeons and Dragons. Almost 4,000 Pieces, Bunch of Figures, and Huge Dragon
Ready to start your campaign? You'd better get your character ready - the magic set will hit stores soon.
Among its plans for January 2024, The LEGO Group included a set based on the Dungeons and Dragons universe. Playing games is the best way to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of one of the most recognizable RPG systems in the world.
So prepare your wands, swords, and character cards. You will soon face a battle with the great red dragon!
Adventure in the spirit of paper RPGs
The set was originally named "Dragon's Keep: Journey's End" and was one of several projects created for the LEGO Ideas competition. Because its creator gathered enough votes, the DnD-inspired structure will be available on store shelves starting April 4th.
The official version, called "Dungeons and Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale," consists of 3,745 pieces and six minifigures based on classes known from the textbooks. Brick fans will have the opportunity to build a tavern, treasure crypt, and, of course, dungeons, just like in the original project. There will be no shortage of famous monsters.
However, such an impressive set comes with an impressive price. To build this charming town, we have to pay $359.99.
The birthday of DnD is a big event, therefore The LEGO Group celebrates it appropriately. In early April, a book inspired by the set will be released, enabling you to truly experience the story of the red dragon. The story will be available through Lego Insiders starting from April 1st -- also in a free version to download.
And that's not the end of it, as on April 6th there will be an RPG session with Lucas Bolt himself, the creator of the idea.
Dragon after minor corrections
Although "The Red Dragon' Tale" is undoubtedly charming, it doesn't replicate the original idea exactly. When browsing through the comments on the LEGO Ideas platform, it's hard not to notice disappointed users who preferred the original project.
Just looked at all the pics for the LEGO version of this. We were really excited about your original design, but not crazy about the LEGO changes. It was perfect as you designed it! I wish they [LEGO] would've stuck closer to your design and color scheme. (...) so sadly now we probably won't even buy this. But, thank you for designing one of the best designs I've ever seen!

And of course they had to change your gorgeous display model into a kids playst, spice up the colours a lot and replace the dragon with a wyvern because it's easier to make.
