Layoffs at EA. Mass Effect and Dragon Age Fans Have Nothing to Worry About
It looks like the scourge of layoffs affecting Electronic Arts won't torpedo work on the new installments of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series.
After the news about Electronic Arts' shake-up spread in the media, many people probably started to worry about upcoming games from the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series. Fortunately, any fears of the fans were quickly dispelled.
IGN journalists managed to find out that cost cutting won't have a negative impact on EA's BioWare studio. Therefore, there's no threat to Mass Effect 5 and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf created by this developer.
IGN also shed some light on the current state of work on these positions. It turns out that not much has changed regarding Mass Effect 5 and the game is still in the pre-development phase. So this could confirm the recent reports that the "five" won't be released on the market before 2029.
The priority for BioWare studio seems to be DA: Dreadwolf, which - according to information from December - will be presented in the summer of 2024.
Let us recall that Mass Effect 5 was announced in 2020. Since then, the BioWare team has revealed a few vague materials from the game being developed on Unreal Engine 5.
As for the new Dragon Age, the first info about the fourth installment of the series dates back to 2017. Unfortunately, right from the start, this title had big problems. During these 7 years, the project was abandoned by, among others: developers of Mark Darrah and Fernando Melo and series creative directors Mike Laidlaw and Matt Goldman.
