Kingdom Come 2 is „welcoming hardcore game.” Designer of RPG believes game's length „doesn't really matter,” because something else is more important

Ondrej Bittner of Warhorse Studios argues that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is friendly to both fans of big challenges and simpler solutions. According to the designer, unique experiences are the key to the game's success.

We live in times when many players complain about the length of new titles, which ultimately prevents them from reaching the end credits. For this reason alone, I bounced off from Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, among others. Meanwhile, Ondrej Bittner from Warhorse Studios argues that it's not about how long the game is, but the individual experiences. In a conversation with GamesRadar+, the senior designer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also calls the latest creation of the Czechs a "hardcore" entry, but at the same time "quite welcoming."

Bittner primarily defends the expanded mechanics present in the latest adventures of Henry. The developer believes these elements captivate players, setting Kingdom Come 2 apart from more monotonous games.

I think the mechanics you're describing – a little more involved gameplay – falls around the fact that players may be finally [realizing] that it doesn't really matter how long a game is. What matters is if your individual sessions are individual enough. If a game is 150 hours and all of your sessions are the same, you're gonna get bored. A little more involved mechanics [means] more original content - said Ondrej Bittner in an interview with GamesRadar+.

The senior designer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 uses the example of Elden Ring, which in his opinion is characterized by "simple mechanics," but also offers extensive exploration and many secrets. This gives the game a unique character, and such games have a positive impact on the industry.

However, this doesn't mean that they will suit all tastes, a perfect example of which is Bittner himself, for whom the combat in the FromSoftware's title turned out to be too difficult. Meanwhile, Warhorse Studios wanted KCD 2 to engage fans of hardcore gameplay while also providing alternative paths for those who prefer less challenging tasks. As Bittner said: "despite everything, the game is not difficult, because you can always achieve something in a different way".

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released on February 4th this year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
