Junkie XL Prepares Soundtrack for the New Godzilla Movie
Creating the soundtrack for the upcoming blockbuster called Godzilla vs. Kong will have a unique character for Junkie XL. The composer is a big fan of the Japanese monster.
Do you know Tom Holkenborg? You may be more familiar with his artistic nickname Junkie XL. The guy not only became famous for making really good electronic music, but also wrote some memorable compositions for such cinema hits as Mad Max: Road Fury, Deadpool or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The artist is currently working on a new blockbuster project - the next movie from MonsterVerse, Godzilla vs. Kong. It will be the fourth part of this "monstrous" series, but first to feature Junkie XL's music. The history of his involvement as a composer for the movie is one of the more unusual and has a strong connection with Holkenborg's emotional involvement with "big G". He shared it in an interview for Forbes:
“I’m such a Godzilla freak. I have all the Japanese versions of the movies. At a certain point, just for s**ts and giggles, I wrote something for Godzilla. About two years ago, I met the director because he showed interest in me as a composer. I asked him, ‘Do you know I’m the biggest Godzilla fan on the planet, and, years ago, I wrote some stuff.’ He was like, ‘You’re kidding me?’ So we started communicating, I tweaked what I did, played it for him, and he was totally in love.”
Work of a true fan will certainly not disappoint our expectations, so at least we know that Godzilla vs. Kong will be a pleasant musical experience. As for the quality of the rest of the work, we can't be that sure, because the previous parts met with a mixed reception of the audience. Adam Wingard (Netflix's Death Mote) will be responsible for the direction, and the script will be written by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok) and Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island). The leading roles will be played by Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Alexander Skarsgard (Tarzan: Legend) and Kyle Chandler (Manchester by the Sea). The work will debut in cinemas on May 21, 2021.
