Jack Black to Star in Live-Action Minecraft Movie Alongside Jason Momoa
Another well-known actor – Jack Black – has joined the cast of the Minecraft's movie adaptation. In what role?
It has been rumored for some time that a Minecraft adaptation is in development. The iconic game is set to be brought to the big screens, and we’ve already learned that the film will feature Jason Momoa, whom you may know as Aquaman from the DCEU or Dante Reyes from Fast X. In addition to him, the production is expected to feature Matt Berry and Danielle Brooks.
Now we've learned that we'll also see Jack Black in Minecraft as Steve, the game's protagonist. This would be another game adaptation starring the American, who previously lent his voice to Bowser from The Super Mario Bros. Movie (via Bingefire).
The actor himself shared the news of the new role on social media.
For now, we don't know much about the film itself. Details are being kept under wraps. We only got to know the cast and director – Jared Hess. A screenwriter is still being sought.
Recently, movie adaptations of games have become popular. We could already watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Last of Us, Uncharted, among others, and Ghost of Tsushima is on the way. So Minecraft is another attempt to capitalize on the popularity of game adaptations.
At this point we can expect the movie at April 4, 2025, but the date is subject to change.
