The new year surprises from the beginning. News has emerged that Jack Black is joining the cast of the screen adaptation of Minecraft. Stars such as Jason Momoa, Matt Berry and Danielle Brooks are already involved in the production. It is Jack Black, however, who will have the biggest role, as the man is to play Steve, the game's main, angular protagonist (vide Deadline).

Jack Black seems to be coming to the forefront of actors hired for video game adaptations. Last year he could be heard as Bowser in Super Mario Bros. The Movie. The star is still involved in the screen adaptation of Borderlands, another famous series characterized by a specific artistic style. Behind each of the mentioned movie is a different label, which shows that Jack Black attracts the attention of many different people.

However, we still do not know the details of the project. Minecraft movie is in the early stages of production, and the search for a screenwriter to develop a storyline for Steve is still underway. What we do know, however, is who is directing. The project will be helmed by Jared Hess, who has already worked with Jack Black in the past on the 2006 comedy Nacho Libre.

The adaptation of the popular video game has faced problems practically since the first announcements. Back in 2019, it was reported that the movie would hit theaters in 2022, and a dozen months ago we learned that it would feature Jason Momoa. In 2023, the premiere was postponed to April 4, 2025, but this date may also prove difficult to maintain.
