It's Getting Crowded in Spider-Man 3 as Dr Strange Joins the Roster
Benedict Cumberbatch joins the cast of MCU's third Spider-Man movie. He will return to the role of Doctor Strange, who will become Peter Parker's new mentor.
A lot of great names come together in the context of the cast of Spider-Man 3. Recently, we learned about Jami Foxx's involvement as Electro (the character who appeared in the previous Spider-Man movie series, or The Amazing Spider-Man), and another great "comeback" may come from J.K. Simmons, who appeared in the post-credits scene of Far From Home as J. Jonah Jameson, thus returning after more than 10 years (Sam Raimi's trilogy) to his legendary creation.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter reports that besides the aforementioned actors we will also see Benedict Cumberbatch, the man who has been an important part of MCU as Doctor Strange for several years now. Moreover, it won't be an insignificant role, because the hero is to be Peter Parker's new mentor (after the late Tony Stark and Nick Fury acting somewhere beyond Earth).
It's probably the norm that in every movie Spider-Man needs a senior mentor, trying to get some life truths into his head. We would like to remind that the hero himself will be played by Tom Holland again, but it will probably be his penultimate performance in Marvel Cinematic Universe due to Kevin Feige's tough deal with Sony, which temporarily lent the character rights.
The already impressive cast will be complemented byseveral other stars - including Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Marisa Tomei. The work will be directed by Tom Watts, and it will make its debut in cinemas on December 17, 2021.
