„It Wasn’t What You’d Call Satisfying”. Harry Potter Actress, Who Played the Beloved Character, Confessed That Starring in the Series Didn’t Feel Like Acting for Her
Although she played a character beloved by fans, the Harry Potter actress is not satisfied with her role in the famous series.
There are many unforgettable characters in Harry Potter, those positive and negative. And certainly one of those who is most liked by viewers is Minerva McGonagall, who is the head of the Gryffindor house and teaches transmutation. The witch has always shown a lot of concern for her students, whom she took care of during their stay at Hogwarts, in a way acting as their school mother.
However, while the character, as well as the world from Harry Potter itself, hold a special magic for viewers, that's not necessarily how Minerva's replacement, Maggie Smith, sees it. The actress confessed that she appreciates the opportunity to appear in Harry Potter, however, it doesn't make her overly enthusiastic. Neither does her role in Downton Abbey, as she confessed during an interview for the Evening Standard.
I am deeply grateful for the work in Potter and indeed Downton but it wasn’t what you’d call satisfying. I didn’t really feel I was acting in those things.
Although the actress doesn't feel the same enthusiasm as fans of the universe, this doesn't take anything away from her unforgettable portrayal of Minerva, with which she gained the audience's sympathy. The head of the Gryffindor house is undeniably one of the more expressive and positive characters in the series.
Maggie Smith is not the only Harry Potter actor who is not convinced by own performance in the series. Gary Oldman also had a bit of a problem, which stemmed from the fact that, in his own words, he took a wrong approach to the character of Sirius, whom he could have played better if he had prepared more for the role.
