Intel Knocks Out AMD
The 12th generation of Intel Core CPUs has caught up or overtaken AMD Ryzen series in the desktop field in many applications. The next blow, the i7-12700H, came in the mobile category.
Intel Core i9-12900K from the Alder Lake family debuted in early November. In the launch benchmarks, it turned out to come close to the competing Ryzen 9 5900X in professional applications, offering higher performance in some apps and lower performance in others. A more significant difference between these CPUs was seen in games, where Intel's product generated up to a few dozen frames more than AMD's counterpart. According to recent leaks, it seems that the Alder Lake mobile CPU will also prove to be faster than the competition.
The editors of Notebookcheck have shared revelations about the Core i7-12700H. It's a CPU equipped with six efficient Golden Cove cores and eight energy-efficient Gracemont cores, which translates into twenty threads (HyperTreading active only for the more efficient cores). In the Cinebench R23 multi-threaded performance test, the Intel CPU cranked out 18501 points, a whopping 47% more than the Ryzen 9 5900HX (12570 points). In the single-threaded performance test (Cinebench R20), the i7-12700H achieved a score of 689 points, which is 21% more than AMD's counterpart (570 points).
The release of mobile Alder Lake will most likely take place in the first quarter of 2022. A new generation of Ryzens is also planned for next year. This means that if semiconductor production does not completely stop, the next 12 months will be really interesting.
