Insider Brings Bad News About GTA Online Version From GTA 6
A well-known GTA leaker claims that Take-Two Interactive has refused to implement a solution in Grand Theft Auto 6 that would have significantly improved multiplayer gameplay.
Disappointing and, unfortunately, quite credible reports have emerged online regarding Grand Theft Auto VI.
- The source is a leaker who has an excellent reputation among Rockstar fans, Tez2.
- According to him, Take-Two rejected the idea of using dedicated servers in the network module of GTA 6.
- Thus, the multiplayer mode in the next installment of the series will use the same peer-to-peer solutions as Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online. This means that there will not be one central server where everything will be calculated - the network structure is to be distributed across all player devices.
The reason Take-Two rejected the idea of introducing dedicated servers for GTA 6 was to be the cost. Indeed - peer-to-peer is cheaper, although this raises the question of whether a franchise that makes such crazy money (sales of the fifth installment recently exceeded 180 million copies), requires this kind of savings.
- The lack of dedicated servers causes multiplayer experience to deteriorate. For example, in GTA Online there are problems with explosions. This is because the game calculates the explosion on the device of the closest player and then streams this to the hardware of the other players, which means that sometimes this event is not properly synchronized for all users.
- From GTAForum reactions to these reports are quite negative, although there are also voices that it won't be too bad. Rockstar Games is constantly improving its network systems to minimize problems common to games that do not use dedicated servers. In this regard, RDR Online was clearly better than GTA Online and it can be expected that GTA 6 will continue this trend.
- The fact that GTA Online lacks traditional dedicated servers, by the way, does not mean that everything takes place on player hardware during the gameplay. Instead, there are Rockstar servers that take care of such aspects of matchmaking or transactions, and there is no obstacle to using them also, for example, to synchronize elements of the game world.
Recall that we still do not know when the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6. The recent financial report from Take-Two Interactive suggests however, that the release of GTA 6 will take place between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025. This is because the publisher expects record revenues of $8 billion in these twelve months, and without the release of the latest installment in the series, it is unlikely that such a result will be possible.
