Stardew Valley is a real phenomenon. This indie game made by a single developer, Eric Barone, managed to sell 1 million copies in less than two months since its release on February 26, 2016, Chucklefish Games confirmed to Polygon. The 2D pixel art farming simulator is currently Steam’s best-selling titles of 2016 (numbers on SteamSpy are not yet updated), second only to H1Z1: King of the Kill and the free-to-play Ark: Survival of the Fittest. Besides, Stardew Valley has been receiving overwhelmingly positive Steam user reviews (98% recommendations).
Stardew Valley is a game heavily inspired by the cult classic Harvest Moon series (which now goes by the name Story of Seasons). However, Chucklefish Games’ title is even more open-ended. The player assumes the role of a young farmer who has to design and develop his or her farm. This entails breeding animals, growing crops, fishing, working in a main, and more. Besides, you can develop relations with NPCs and even start a family. Stardew Valley is currently available only on PC – you can grab it on Steam for $14.99 – but it may also hit consoles in the future, according to MCVUK.
