The Witcher 3 Lets You Play as Sorceress Now, Thanks to Mod Allowing Players to Create Their Own Character

Players are doing increasingly impressive things with REDKit tools. One of them has prepared a project that allows you to create your own character, as well as go through the campaign as a Sorceress using only combat spells in battle.

The release of REDKit tools for The Witcher 3 by CD Projekt RED studio at the end of May led to a renaissance of the game's modding community and resulted in a number of interesting projects. One of the newest ones is the impressive Custom Player Characters project. True to its name, it allows you to go through the game with a custom character

When creating a character, the player assembles it by combining various elements (e.g. hair, head, torso, etc.) of almost all NPCs available in the game. This is not just a visual change, as we are not limited to playing a male Witcher. The player can also take on a female version of this class (called witchtress) and even more impressively – play as a sorceress. To make the latter possible, the author of the modification prepared a new playable combat spell system, which can be upgraded during gameplay.

The developer has also redone the animations, so if you play as a woman, she will move properly both during gameplay and in the cutscenes. This is important because previous attempts to swap models for female ones had to involve distorting Geralt's skeleton to fit other body shapes, which always looked strange. The author has also prepared a new adventure that will teach you how to use the magic system.

The first version of Custom Player Characters debuted three weeks ago. Since then, the mod has received five updates, and the latest one is numbered 2.0.2. These patches have fixed technical bugs, improved balance (e.g. magic attacks were previously too weak against wraiths), as well as expanded the options for character appearance configuration.

The project is impressive, but that should come as no surprise. After all, its author is nikich340, who a few years ago released the modification A Night to Remember, which added a new adventure to The Witcher 3. It was a huge achievement, because back then the community had no official tools to produce mods of this type. Now that the developer has gotten his hands on REDKit, we can't wait to see what else he manages to create.
