Edward Furlong had a promising career ahead of him when he started, but he disappeared rather quickly. What was going on and what does the Terminator 2 actor do today?
Years ago, the door to a great career in Hollywood opened for Edward Furlong. The young actor made his screen debut in 1991 as John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Not everyone can count on such a good start, but Furlong succeeded, and it reawakened the belief that he had a chance to achieve a lot in the film industry. Even more so after the release of his first production, he was praised for his performance.
Unfortunately, his first film also remained his biggest success, which he later failed to top. His subsequent roles passed unnoticed, with only American History X starring him still receiving attention, where he appeared alongside Edward Norton. Furlong, however, alongside his acting career, also developed a career as a model and musician – his song Hold On Tight topped the Japanese charts.
At the age of 16, the young actor hooked up with Jacqueline Domac, 13 years his senior, an agent he met while working on Terminator 2. Furlong then left the family home and moved in with Domac, with whom he separated six years later after the woman accused him of using violence against her.
After 2000, Furlong's career slowed down considerably. The actor began appearing in productions that were being made for direct-to-DVD distribution. To make matters worse, he lost his role in Terminator 3, where John Connor was played by Nick Stahl instead. The actor confessed that the role was lost due to his drug addiction. Unfortunately, Edward Furlong, like many other young actors, struggled with addiction problems that took a toll on his promising career.
It was in 2000 that Furlong first went to rehab. However, he didn’t end his addiction, which he intermittently stayed in for the next few years. In 2006, the actor married Rachael Bella, with whom he has a son Ethan. The couple separated shortly thereafter, as Bella filed for divorce in 2009, in which irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason. That same year, she filed for a restraining order after she was allegedly hit by Furlong.
Between 2012 and 2013, the actor repeatedly had further problems with the law due to violence against another partner.
Where is Edward Furlong now?
In 2021, Edward Furlong confessed on the American Glutton podcast that he had been sober for three years. The actor reportedly managed to rebuild his own life, contacts with his family, and returned to work.
And so in 2023, after a hiatus of several years from acting, Furlong returned to screens in Heart of a Champion. He also appeared alongside Shelley Duvall in the horror film The Forest Hills, as well as in Unspeakable: Beyond the Wall of Sleep, partially based on H.P. Lovecraft's short story. Work is also underway on two more films starring him – Karma and The Endless Whispers.
