„I Don't Know Anybody Who Went to See It.” Sean Connery Believes That Far Too Little Attention Has Been Paid to This Movie
The unforgettable 007 agent, Sean Connery, pointed out which of his films, for reasons he doesn't understand, is overlooked by viewers and have been forgotten by them.
Sometimes actors see potential in certain productions, but audiences don’t share their interest, so that the movies in question pass unnoticed. It also happens that the culprit is the marketing of the show, which was not promoted enough, so that the audience simply doesn’t recognize it and didn’t watch it.
Sean Connery has one such film to his credit. As he confessed during an interview with critic Roger Ebert, Family Business is his most overlooked film by audiences. The actor doesn't know why it had no value for people and was watched by few.
I think my most overlooked picture was Family Business. I've never been able to work out why it had absolutely no curiosity value. I don't know anybody who went to see it. I know the mistake of the film but I liked the idea. The character I played, the father of Dustin [Hoffman], the grandfather of Matthew Broderick, dies in a hospital and of course I had the solution but it was too late: He should have come to his own funeral, explaining he wasn't dead because he had switched cars. That would have solved it. But I still don't understand why there wasn't any measure of curiosity about that picture.
The production certainly wasn't helped either by the fact that it wasn't too well rated by either critics or viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, they gave it 35% positive reviews and 28% positive reviews, respectively. And on IMDb Family Business has a rating of 5.7/10, which doesn't present it very encouragingly either. Such a reception certainly didn’t convince more viewers to reach for this title.
The movie tells the story of Adam, who is offered $1 million by a former professor to “get” a certain item from the lab of a high-tech company. Adam asks his criminal grandfather for help. Will they be able to convince Adam's honest father to join them?
The outline itself does indeed sound intriguing, but other things didn't play out in the case of Family Business, making it Sean Connery's “most overlooked picture.”
