„I Don’t Feel I Am a Director-Teacher”. Steven Spielberg Outlined the Reason Why He Will Never Make a Movie Like Fight Club
Steven Spielberg has a rather specific approach to the films he wants to make. From this it follows that a movie similar to Fight Club will never be made by director of Saving Private Ryan.
Steven Spielberg is one of the most respected directors. His works are known all over the world, probably no one needs to be introduced to Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park or Indiana Jones. But although the director has been involved in the creation of a wide variety of productions, there are some that he would not undertake, as he has a very specific direction set for his career.
The filmmaker confessed during an interview with The Star that he doesn't feel like a teacher, and therefore isn't interested in imparting lessons through his productions, meaning that films like Fight Club, which carry hidden meanings for the audience, don't interest the director – at least in terms of making them himself.
I never set out to teach anybody anything. I don’t feel I am a director-teacher. I feel that I’m a storyteller with a deep abiding interest in America history and world history.
Spielberg has a clear artistic direction. In addition to conveying the history of the world, he is also interested in creating movies that can instill at least a little optimism in people. Instead of filling viewers with the sense of hopelessness, he prefers to go in the opposite direction, which explains why his filmography includes many light-hearted works, ideal for a diverse audience.
I feel optimism offers hope and I don’t like making movies where people walk out of the film in deep despair with a great sense of hopelessness about the future.
Steven Spielberg is adamant that he wants to bring hope through his work and does not intend to lecture anyone, instead preferring to provide the audience with entertainment.
