„I Didn’t Want to Do That”. James McAvoy Was Offered a Role in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, but Turned It Down
James McAvoy talked about how the opportunity arose for him to take part in a Star Trek movie. The actor explained why he ultimately turned down a role in a major sci-fi production.
James McAvoy, whom you may associate with the role of Professor X from the X-Men movies, had a chance to be part of another sci-fi franchise. Being a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor talked about how he was offered a role in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, which seems like it could be a dream come true for many artists, but McAvoy turned down the chance, even though he loves Star Trek himself.
The actor did not want to reveal what role he might have been given, he only said that he was not suitable for it, so he decided to give it up. He tried to do something to make this collaboration work out, however, he couldn't manage, so he decided to withdraw, making room for another artist.
I got offered something. I didn’t want to do that. I suggested I can do something else. They wanted to camera test me and I was like, “Do you know what, it’s alright, don’t worry about it”. Not because I wouldn’t, because I just didn’t think I was right
McAvoy did not try at all costs to keep his role in the film, which undoubtedly could have been a big opportunity for him, after all, it belonged to a popular brand.
What I said to J.J. about what I thought the role should be and the kind of actor that should be, they absolutely got. I’m not saying that he got that because I said that. But the kind of person I thought that I’m not is exactly the person who got it. And it’s brilliant. And I love the new ones. I love J.J.’s films. They are excellent.
The star doesn't have the slightest problem with the fact that his participation in Star Trek didn't work out, as he was offered a role that wasn't for him. The actor is happy that someone suitable was found in his place, and he himself currently can't complain about how his career has turned out. McAvoy is enjoying further success, and now the latest film starring him, Speak No Evil, is in theaters.
