Humankind With Great Debut on Steam

Humankind recorded an excellent debut on Steam. The game is selling very well and achieving impressive activity numbers.

Yesterday, Humankind, a turn-based strategy game from Amplitude, devs of Endless Space and Endless Legend, debuted on the market. The game had a very successful launch, showing that PC gamers were hungry for a good alternative to the Sid Meier's Civilization series.

At the time of writing this news Humankind is on the first place of the Steam bestseller list. It is worth reminding that the game's pre-orders took the sixth position in the top 10 for the last week.

The game also achieves high activity scores. At the hottest moment of the release day, Humankind was played by 55,284 people on Steam. This is the best result in the history of the studio, beating the achievement of the previous leader, Endless Space 2, by two thousand.

This success is all the more impressive because Humankind from the moment of its release is also available as part of Game Pass on PC. Subscription players do not count towards the above figures, nor do those who purchased the title from Epic Games Store, so in reality the game's popularity is even greater.

Humankind achieves impressive results on Valve's service despite the fact that not all players are happy. On Steam, 76% of user reviews are positive, which is a good score, but it could have been better. Many of users giving negative ratings complain about technical issues and gameplay balance, so after a few patches the overall average will probably improve. 4X games almost always have a bumpy launch and the latest work of Amplitude proved to be no exception. Judging by the activity results, the game can keep you in front of the screen for a long time, and a lot of users emphasize that the gameplay is in many aspects different from Civilization, which bodes well for the project's future.

Sample reviews from Steam:

"A unique mix of Civ 6 and Endless Legend. Seems like another solid strategy game from Amplitude that I'll play entirely too much of."

"I feel a bit bad for the developers, they get a lot of negative reviews for a game which is really quite good. 90% of those reviews seem to be either complaints about the game not starting (or crashing) or people saying its either not enough like Civ or too much like Civ. Simultaneously, somehow.

The game plays very well and people custom to the UI of the endless titles will find their way here as well.(...) Thanks devs for this game, was about time Civ gets a rival!"

"People are really giving this game alot of flak. As far as I can tell this is a really well made game. The systems work well and after an update or two most of the issues will be fixed. Just relax, most civ games launched as hollow and bug filled messes. Give the devs a day or two to patch it up. I think its great and has alot of potential with minimal patching required."
