Amplitude released a beta of the first update (1.0.2.116) for the strategy game Humankind. The update is therefore not yet fully ready for public release, but it is still worthy of attention, as it fixes many of the game's most serious problems.
To install the patch, you need to right-click Humankind in the Steam client and go to Game Properties. There, go to the "Beta" tab and select "Beta_1.2.116" from the drop-down menu.
The update fixes the most serious shortcomings in the balance of gameplay, such as the shortage of oil on the maps which limits development options. Significant changes have also been made to the AI modules, making the AI more efficient on the map and better optimized.
Over a hundred different bugs have also been fixed in virtually every aspect of the game, from economy to diplomacy, AI, military, interface, multiplayer, and modding. The most important of these fixes are related to the removal of imperfections that prevented the completion of a turn.
Humankind debuted last week exclusively on PC. The game has received very good reviews and sells well, but its reception among players is harmed by an unsatisfactory level of technical refinement. It is the main reason that only 71% of user reviews on Steam are positive. The activity scores are also falling all the time. The record of yesterday was more than half lower than at launch.
