Humankind Devs Drop Denuvo Before the Launch
Humankind, the upcoming new 4X strategy game from Amplitude Studios, will not used Denuvo anti-piracy protection, contrary to earlier announcements. The developers abandoned the solution due to the negative impact it has on the game's performance.
In June we reported that Humankind, the promising turn-based 4X strategy from Amplitude, will be protected by an anti-piracy system Denuvo, universally disliked by the players. The developers, after analyzing all the data flowing to them from people playing the alpha and beta versions in the last few months, have decided that they will not use the software. The information they have acquired confirms that the implementation of Denuvo would negatively affect the game's performance and until the release, which is set for August, they would be unable to minimize this harmful effect on the game were it be not removed.
In a statement by Romain de Waubert, the head of Amplitude, which was posted on Humankind's forum, we read what follows:
"Our priority is always the best possible experience for the players who buy our games and support us. Denuvo should never impact player performance, and we don’t want to sacrifice quality for you guys."
Although initially, the studio's statement left room for introduction of Denuvo in the future, the developers have confirmed that Denuvo will not be suddenly added in any update, as the topic of its use is already closed. Besides, the security made sense for them only in the first days after the release, when traditionally the game's sales figures are the highest. Theoretically, it stops pirates for some time, i.e. until the first cracks appear, which is of considerable financial importance for the devs.
